Our Descent into Fall

As the school year starts for so many, ArtStem also has many exciting events planned for the fall season! Join us as we host several workshops through September, October and November!

Cambrian Branch

We started off the fall workshop season with our first in-person library workshop, in partnership with the Cambrian Library!

For every Tuesday of September, starting on September 6, we’ve hosted a workshop in the Community Room of the Cambrian Library from 5 to 6 pm. The first workshop was Astronomy Art, the second was about Ecosystem Art, the third was Landscape Art, and the fourth and final workshop was Geography Art. We had so much fun with these workshops, so thank you so much for those who came!

ArtStem Co-founder Raashika Biswari recounts this first in-person library experience to have been an enjoyable one, but admits that she and the other volunteers were surprised by the age range of the participants in the event.

“Changing the slides to meet their knowledge level was definitely challenging, but I think we made some improvements on that from the first class to the last,” Biswari said. “Given the younger age group we will be shifting our focus from group learning and discussions to individual interaction to understand their grasp of the stem concepts.”

Hillview Branch

Having started on October 30, the Hillview Branch workshops will be held for three Sundays from 5 - 6:30 and will be on Architecture Design

Biswari is excited to conduct this workshop in person, as she remembers it to be a “huge favorite” for Zoom workshops.

“One student even told me that they wanted to become an architect after the workshop which made teaching them even more rewarding,” Biswari said. “[This is] why I am excited to meet students in person and see how we can give them an even better experience.”

Joyce Ellington

The Joyce Ellington workshops will be held online on October 27th, November 3rd and November 10th, Thursdays from 5 to 6:30.

The topic that these workshops will be focusing on is Astronomy, and will last three weeks. As Biswari puts it, “we are keen to work with them and provide a wonderful experience to the children attending the workshop!”

Berryessa Branch

The Berryessa Branch workshops will be on November 5, 12 and 19 from 10:30 am to 12 pm, and will cover isometric sketches and 3D design! Focus will be on creating structures that can be replicated in real life, whether that’s architecture or 3D printing!

These workshops are going to be held in person at at 3355 Noble Ave, San Jose, CA 95132!

The librarian who reached out to work with ArtStem is amongst the first to express interest in these workshops, and Biswari expresses that she and the rest of the team have been working throughout the summer and are excited to conduct our workshop there.

“Given that we use TinkerCad for this workshop, it will be in a slightly different setting,” Biswari said. “But I am excited to see how that plays out!”
